Kilowatt Hour
The kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a common unit of measurement for electrical energy. It indicates how much energy an electrical device with a power of one kilowatt (1000 watts) consumes or generates in one hour.
Significance for Photovoltaics:
In photovoltaics, the kilowatt-hour is used to measure the electrical energy produced by a solar system. The amount of energy generated depends on various factors, such as the size of the solar system, sunlight exposure, geographical location, and the efficiency of the solar modules.
The kilowatt-hour is also the basis for billing self-generated electricity in what is known as self-consumption. Excess energy that is not used can be fed into the public electricity grid and compensated.
